Best Gravy for Your Thanksgiving Turkey
Turkey Gravy Ingredients:
pan drippings
1/4 cup all purpose flour
3 cups of whole milk
1/3 lb Pork Sausage
Turkey Gravy Preparation:
Pour the turkey or chicken pan drippings into a measuring cup and skim the fat off. Add about 3 tablespoon of this fat to a hot pan and add sausage meat to it. Cook the ground pork for 2-3 minutes and stir in 1/4 cup of all purpose flour. Keep sauting meat and flour for 2-3 minutes more. until flour and ground por are fully cooked. Pour the 3 cups of whole milk into the flour/pork mixture. Cook, stirring, until thickened and bubbling. Cook for about 1 minute, stirring. Add salt and pepper to taste.
This recipe makes about 3 cups of gravy. This gravy goes very well with chicken fried steak and other fried meats. You can substitute american becon for sausage if you want or add use both. If using both , render the becon fat and cook your meat and roux in that.
Tips..you can make vegetarian gravey by substituting canola oil for turkey/chiken fat and omitting pork sausage completely. Just make roux with flour and fat and add milk. For vegan gravy , add vegetable broth instead of milk
